MorgueFile/mensatic I recently ran across an item about a man who was arrested after trying to shoot squirrels on a golf course. Unfortunately, the man missed the squirrels and accidentally hit a golfer in the stomach with his .22 caliber rifle. What's "squirreled away" about stories like these is that they do not discuss the idea of a lack of self-control from folks like The Squirrel Hunter. Note to The Squirrel Hunter: Do not shoot in populated areas. Indeed it's common sense advice, but methinks The Squirrel Hunter left his common sense at his garage door. Indeed many of us only dream of "offing" those tree-dwelling rodents. Those jittery little critters invade our gardens, bird feeders, chimneys, gutters and sometimes our attics. They even become daring by trying to cross the roads, but receive their comeuppance by becoming flattened by our tires and thus finished off by the crows. Jokes aside, it's honestly a great thing for the city to cheer about these days so let the local newscasters, residents and talk-masters celebrate. To me, that's the silver lining. Beneath that news, it's outrageous how much it costs to go to the National Football League's ultimate championship game known as Super Bowl LI. The game cost thousands for spectators to attend the February 5th brouhaha. To combat that issue, Mayor Kasim Reed proposed a special viewing for fans to gather at the Georgia Dome to watch the big game on jumbo screens. We saw this idea put to use during Major League Baseball's World Series games during autumn 2016 when fans gathered at Cleveland's Progressive Field to view their team who were playing their opponents in Chicago. This one is a bit off the radar, but President-elect Donald J. Trump has feelings about another Georgia district.

A little bit of snow and ice  hit the Atlanta metro area on January 7 and 8, 2017. Photo by Robert J. Nebel A light version of panic angst set in as the first snowfall of 2017 visited the Southeastern United States - especially the Atlanta metro area. With the previous snowstorm of 2014 in the rear-view mirror, we did not want to see a repeat of that debacle. Yes, we screwed up again after the 1982 disaster. Why? Because we have short enough memories to repeat disasters. Folks hunkered down for good reason. Indeed our northern counterparts laugh at our measly two to five or so inches of snow, but here we go again: why have a bunch of snow removal equipment that would hardly ever see much use? End of story! As one can tell, I'm so over the whole, "They're Laughing At Us" meme. Ugh! We are by and large untreated. I don't care if we have 1/4" of precipitation. When that 32 degree Fahrenheit mark is reached, it just freezes and it's incredibly stupid ...
