March can come in like a tiger
Up, down and then back up again is what we have been dealing with in the latter stages of winter 2018. In late February, it felt like spring. By mid-March, we went back to a blustery winter. Now we are on the upswing and I’m hoping for decent weather so I can do some outdoor runs. I’ve been a victim of way too much treadmill these days and there’s no doubt that I will pay a price for that amount of gym activity.
Speaking of winter, in the upper peninsula of Michigan, the folks get a little antsy with their heavy winters, so they decide to have fun each year with their annual Outhouse Classic. Check out this video that I worked on. It was quite a blast to put together:
While on the topic of weather, March 2018 saw the 25th anniversary of The Storm of the Century when the Atlanta metro area was hit by massive amounts of snow early on a Saturday morning. That weekend was quite a challenge when those of us who lived in the area at the time, were caught by surprise. It’s no wonder that we go crazy every time there’s ever talk of snow hitting the area. The weird thing about March 1993 was that storm hit so late in the winter season. The following summer turned out to be quite a scorcher as well with what I recall, temps hovering in the high 90s and maybe even the low 100s.
March of 2018 also saw the tenth anniversary of a tornado that hit downtown Atlanta. It’s no secret that the metro area isn’t immune to tornadic activity and that night in Atlanta was no different as a twister hit near Centennial Olympic Park and skipped around the downtown area leaving quite a bit of damage to the famed Westin Peachtree Hotel. It took a while for those windows to get fixed. Next month will be the 20th anniversary of a tornado that hit Atlanta’s northern suburbs. I’ll have more thoughts on that next month.
