Just about everywhere I looked, I saw books. Handsome shelves filled with years of hardback literary gems stacked from floor to ceiling. Then I spotted something that I haven’t seen in years: a card catalogue. Was I in my public library? No, I was in the lobby of a hotel with a literary motif that goes by such an appropriate name: the Library Hotel.
“What a great idea!” I exclaimed.
“We agree,” said the cheerful concierge.
As the concierge explained that each of the 60 rooms is dedicated to the Dewey Decimal System, I began to appreciate literature in a new light. Whether you’re staying in a “Math & Science” or “History” room, you’re guaranteed to be ensconced in a world of books.
The Library Hotel offers rooms ranging from their Petite Room Full to the Junior Suite With Sofabed. This 350-square-foot suite features a large bed and pull-out sofa for extra guests.
If you feel that you want to go out in the evening, but not go too far, check out the Bookmarks Lounge. This intimate hot spot serves up fine drinks including the Capote and the Great Gatsby. The lounge is open from 4 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday. By day, this 14th floor space is known as the Poetry Garden and Writers Den. It can also be booked for corporate events and social receptions.

In the morning, the Library Hotel offers a full-range complimentary breakfast buffet in the second floor Reading Room. I feel that New York's boutique hotels are the closest thing to a bed and breakfast. When you stay at a hotel like the Library, you get to know the staff and other guests. At this particular hotel, we met a couple visiting from France.
After breakfast, hit the town to visit the nearby attractions including Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on 5th Avenue and 50th Street. This awesome architectural wonder is a sight to behold.
Out of all the hotels that I have visited in New York, the Library Hotel left the biggest impression on me. Aside from its literary theme, each room has fully updated features and amenities. The flat screen televisions and DVD players stood out for me. Guests can choose a complimentary film from the hotel’s massive DVD library at the front desk.
